Intricately hand carved from beef cattle bone. Carvings of this calibre can only be made by a carver with many years of experience. This piece is large and makes a statement. The pendant hangs on a hand-braided wax cord and the pendant height can be adjusted using the sliding knots.
The carving depicts two Manaia's, a traditional Māori symbol, which is believed to protect the wearer from evil and bring good luck, a guardian. The Manaia is also believed to be a messenger that moves freely between the spirit realm and the human world.
